He conducted Gigli in many operas in Europe and America. He also conducted the famous Gigli recordings of Giordano’s Andrea Chenier and Puccini’s Tosca and Madam Butterfly.
He first conducted in Britain at the Edinburgh Festival in 1963 (Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur) and conducted Verdi’s Simone Boccanegra at Covent Garden in 1965. He died in Rome in 1982.
